Following a successful implementation of Women’s Sewing Skill training in Arba Minch, AEE-Ethiopia has continued a similar project in Mekele since 2025, supported by AEE-Australia. As we move into 2026, we are excited to continue this initiative, focusing on the ongoing needs of women in the Tigray region, who have faced significant challenges due to the conflict that began in November 2020.
This project aims to support further the poorest women engaged who have been highly affected by the civil war in the region by providing them with essential sewing skills. In this continuation phase, we plan to train an additional 30 women, equipping them with the tools they need to transition into sustainable livelihoods.
Our implementation plan for 2026 will address any ongoing risks and ensure the sustainability of the project, reinforcing AEE-Ethiopia’s commitment to empowering women in this region. Additionally, the trained women will receive support from Community Transformation Groups (CTGs) to help them establish and manage small businesses, fostering transformative changes in their lives.
Her Story:
Mihert joined the vocational tailoring programme three months ago, and the experience has already transformed her life. Deeply grateful for the opportunity, she describes this season as one filled with joy, growth, and a renewed understanding of God’s love.
During her first quarter of training, Mihert learned foundational tailoring skills, such as how to cut designs, sew them properly, and build confidence in her craft. But beyond the technical training, she found something even more meaningful.
“Because of our trainer, I came to know my Saviour, Jesus Christ,” Mihert shared. “I now believe He came to earth and was crucified for our sins. This has changed my life.”
She speaks highly of her trainer’s godly character and the life lessons he imparted, which helped shape both her skills and her faith. Mihert is also deeply appreciative of African Enterprise for running the project, knowing she could never have accessed such an opportunity on her own.
