In May 2026, Stephen Liggins and Shane Dirks taught the PTC subject Doctrine 1 to an enthusiastic class of Christian leaders in Rwanda. Delivered through African Enterprise in partnership with Moore Theological College, the Preliminary Theological Certificate (PTC) provides accessible, high-quality theological education to untrained or under-resourced church leaders and other ministry workers across Africa.
This year’s cohort brought together men and women, young and old, lay and ordained, including several university ministry staff who are discipling Rwanda’s next generation. In a context facing significant challenges from prosperity teachings, liberal theology, and secularism, grounding pastors and other ministry workers in sound doctrine is essential for the long-term health of the church.
The impact of the course is already bearing fruit. University ministry leader Karasi Grace shared how the PTC has deepened her faith and ministry, reflecting: “The course has impacted me with an understanding of the Bible’s purpose, how to study it considering its context, different authors and more. This has impacted my ministry in small group Bible studies and discipleship classes that I lead. I thank God that he is revealing himself through this course using His faithful servants.”
Rev Liggins spoke about teaching the PTC at AE’s 2026 Sydney Mission Dinner. He shared that the benefits of this partnership flow both ways, appreciating the opportunity to learn from the commitment, hospitality, evangelistic fervour and prayerfulness of the Rwandan students.
As plans develop to expand training to dozens more Anglican ministers next year, please pray that this initiative continues to strengthen teachers who will, in turn, disciple thousands across Rwanda.
